Mohamad Hussein Bjaiji

Mohamad Hussein Bjaiji was born in Machghara on 1 August 1948. He attended the town’s public school, continued his studies at the teacher-training college in Beirut, and returned after graduation to teach at the same public school where he had received his early education.

His career combined classroom teaching with cultural and community activity. He participated in the local club and cultural committee in Machghara and contributed to educational and awareness initiatives for students, young people, and residents. He later pursued legal studies in Beirut and helped establish a cultural library in the Chiyah area.

According to commemorative sources that recount his life, he became involved in resistance activity in West Bekaa during the years of Israeli occupation and the Lebanese war and was killed in 1988 during an armed confrontation in the region. He remained known in Machghara as a teacher and community reference who assisted residents and followed local concerns.

His place in the town’s memory continued after his death. An educational centre bearing his name was established in Machghara in 1993, and the school officially registered as Takmiliyat al-Shahid Bjaiji in Machghara continues to bear his name, alongside a hall used for educational and community events.
