Biography
Georgette Sayegh was born in Machghara and became active in Lebanese acting and music during the 1970s.
She appeared in productions by the Rahbani Brothers and performed alongside Fairuz. She later played the leading role in Sahriyyeh, written and composed by Ziad Rahbani.
Her songs include Naterni, Ballighi Kil Mawa‘idi, and Ya Bou Mar‘i. Her career forms part of Machghara’s contribution to Lebanese theatre and popular music.
She first appeared on a Rahbani stage at the age of sixteen and worked with the group for approximately thirteen years. In her own account, she participated in twenty-five stage and film productions and performed ten times at the Baalbek Festival.
Her credits include Nas Min Wara’, Biyya‘ al-Khawatem, Ya‘ish Ya‘ish, Jibal al-Sawan, Hala wal-Malik, Fakhr al-Din, Lulu, and Dawalib al-Hawa before she took the leading role in Ziad Rahbani’s Sahriyyeh.
