Farah Hisham Omar

Lebanese journalist and field correspondent

A journalist from Machghara who worked as an editor and field correspondent for Al Mayadeen and reported on local and regional events before being killed while covering southern Lebanon in 2023.

Biography

Farah Hisham Omar came from Machghara in West Bekaa. She studied journalism and media at the Lebanese University, earned a master’s degree, and worked in media before joining Al Mayadeen in 2021 as an editor and correspondent.

Her assignments included political and field reporting in Lebanon and abroad, including Lebanon’s 2022 parliamentary election and Turkey’s 2023 presidential and parliamentary elections. She later reported from Lebanon’s southern border region.

She was killed on 21 November 2023 together with cameraman Rabih Al-Maamari while carrying out a journalistic assignment near Tayr Harfa in southern Lebanon. Machghara and Al Mayadeen held a public memorial attended by local, political, and media representatives.
